Voice preservation vs. humanization: what is the difference?
Humanizers make AI text sound like a generic person. Voice tools make it sound like a specific person. The distinction matters more than you think.
There is a growing category of tools that promise to "humanize" AI-generated text. Undetectable AI, which gets over 7 million monthly visits, leads the pack. Dozens of others offer the same pitch: paste in your AI draft, get back something that sounds more human.
These tools work. Sort of. They swap vocabulary, restructure sentences, add filler words. The output passes AI detectors more often than the input. But here is the thing nobody talks about: the output does not sound like anyone in particular. It sounds like a generic human.
That is a different goal than making text sound like you.
What humanizers actually do
Most AI humanizers use a simple approach. They take the statistical markers that AI detectors look for, uniform sentence length, predictable vocabulary, low perplexity, and introduce noise. Synonym swaps. Sentence splitting. Random filler phrases. Sometimes they restructure paragraphs entirely.
